How to Maximise The Functions of The Lymphatic System

The functions of the lymphatic system are vital. When this system is working correctly it can help you avoid so much sickness, low energy, fogginess and even potentially disease in the future.

Did you know that you have more lymphatic fluid in your body than blood?!?! We have the circulatory system for the blood to build the tissues and the lymphatic system is for all the waste!! So guess what system most people know nothing about? That’s right, the lymphatic system. And I promise you if you give this system a good “spring cleaning” you will be feeling great!! Mentally clear, physically strong with more energy and vitality. You ready?

What is Lymph?

Since most people don’t know much about the lymphatic system let me start with the basics. Your lymphatic system is your “garbage” acid removal system. So anything your body doesn’t recognise as food, or anything foreign such as toxic chemicals, acids, etc, will go through this system to be removed. It’s when this system gets overloaded that we run into MAJOR problems.

The best way to start looking after your lymphatic system is to not overload it in the first place. You can do this by cutting out all artificial colours, sweeteners, oils, and processed foods from your diet. Instead, focus on plant-based whole foods like fruits and vegetables that are high in enzymes and fibre. These foods help clean your body, especially the ones high in fibre because the fibre sweeps through the intestines and helps carry waste out.

I also want you to consider what is in the personal care products you are using. My motto is if you can’t eat it you shouldn’t be putting it on your skin. Chemicals from shampoos, deodorants, perfumes and many other items get into the bloodstream through the skin. Many of these are known carcinogens (cancer causing). Think about how a nicotine patch works. Just by placing it on your skin it’s entering into your bloodstream.

So here’s my guide for you on how to get your lymph moving so you feel great!

1. Drink More Water to Maximise Lymphatic Flow

There are SO many benefits to drinking more water, especially for your lymphatic system. If a pipe has more water than sludge then it will flow more freely… Make sense? So you want to drink enough water to maximise the lymphatic flow. I recommend 1 litre of water per 22 kg of body weight every day. And if you live in a hot climate or do exercise that makes you sweat, then you need to drink more. Just make sure the water you are drinking is clean and pure, either natural spring water or tap water that has been purified using reverse osmosis or distillation. Adding a pinch of salt to each litre of water can also help in many ways as well (Himalayan or Celtic sea salt are best).

I recommend that you always start your day with 750ml to 1 litre of water first thing and add a squeeze of lemon, lime or orange as that will help improve lymphatic flow.

2. Exercise is Your Lymphatic Systems Best Friend

Exercise is what helps move the lymph around your body. And nothing gets the lymph moving more than walking, jumping, running, biking, martial arts, sports etc. LIFE IS MOVEMENT!!

Plus the more you sweat the better!! The toxins coming out of your body through the sweat means there is less to be carried around in the lymphatic system. I recommend as a minimum you walk for 30-45 minutes a day – perferably outside in nature! Maybe on the beach or down at your local park. You’ll notice a massive difference to your health and strength within just 2-3 weeks of doing.

3. Deep Breathing is Like a Heartbeat for Your Lymph

How deeply do you breathe?

When you take in a really deep breath this expands your diaphragm and pushes the lymphatic fluid through the body. Deep breathing is another super important way to pump the lymph and get it circulating. In fact, it’s kind of like the ‘heart’ for the lymphatic system. Check out Wim Hof on YouTube – he has mastered the art of deep breathing and has some great guided breathing videos to get you started!

4. Clean Out all the Toxic Waste in Your Colon

How clean your lymph is depends on how clean your colon is. Most of the accumulation of waste in the lymph is excess toxins that come from a backed-up colon! Gross! Did you know that after every meal you should do a ‘number 2’ within 45 minutes to an hour…. and if you don’t this is a clear indication of constipation!!

And if you’re backed up, you are not alone. But the good news is that I have developed a 4-day intensive Colon Cleanse that will get things cleaned out and get your digestive system working like it should. It’s a formula based on an ancient recipe that doesn’t use harsh herbs that force peristalsis (so you won’t be dependent afterwards). It basically acts like a scrubbing brush for your insides and pulls out all the toxins at the same time.

5. Sweat Baby Sweat!

Sweating is a great way to clear the lymphatic system since it releases toxins from the body through the skin. A good 15 minutes of sweating will do wonders! The best way is to use a steam room or infrared sauna. I have an IR sauna at home that I use most days. I recommend using eucalyptus oil to improve the lungs (add a drop to the palm of your hand, rub your hands together and then cup them over your nose and inhale deeply) and also doing breathing exercises while you’re sitting there sweating it out.

6. Tight Clothes May be Affecting Your Health

How tight are your clothes?

Did you know that wearing constrictive clothing can pinch the lymphatic system? Ladies, your bra can be a major contributing factor in developing breast cancer and other lymphatic issues. Pinching the lymph system off is like pinching a hose that is draining a dirty pond! The toxins will accumulate and lead to issues. Pants, belts, bras, shoes and even gloves that are too tight can cause issues, especially when worn daily.

7. Detox Your Skin

I want to share an incredible technique here that you used to have to pay $2,000 for (by coming to one of my weekend courses)! But I love you, so I’m going to tell you here for free. This is the process of GUASHA. If you use this process it will take the workload off your other organs and keep you healthy and beautiful!!

8. Draino for Your Lymph

Probably the most important thing you can do to clean your lymph system is a fast!! A juice fast gives the body time to eliminate a LOT of stored up toxins and accumulations of plaque. Supporting your body with breathing exercises, enemas, sunshine and sweating, copious amounts of juices and water during the fast will be like putting Draino into your lymphatic system. I would recommend a fast of 7-21 days on 3 litres of juice and 3-4 litres of water per day depending on the severity of toxicity in your lymphatic system.

9. Lymphatic Massage and Bodywork

A lymphatic massage with essential oils can help in draining the lymph physically. Making sure your body is aligned can also help. I have a Chiropractor I go to and an Osteopath could also really be of benefit here! Acupressure to make sure the energy systems of the body are flowing would be amazing for your body as well.
