The Signs Of Gum Disease ‘The Silent Killer’ and How to Treat it Naturally

Knowing how to treat gum disease at home is so important. Gum disease has been tagged as a silent killer as the symptoms aren’t always obvious plus it’s linked to a variety of other diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, certain cancers, and even kidney disease. Shocking huh?!

The gums play an important role in supporting our teeth. Bleeding gums are a sign of gum disease which if you don’t do something about it will result in the loss of your teeth. I don’t know about you but dentures in a glass jar are so not appealing, I want to have my own healthy teeth for my whole life.

Aside from the underlying problems with gum disease, the more obvious one is that without teeth we cannot chew our food well. This overburdens the digestive system and makes the assimilation process more difficult. Undigested food can lead to fermentation issues and encourage bacterial imbalances which lead to bloating, gas and just not feeling great.

The gums are one of the last places to receive nutrition in the body and periodontal disease or gum disease is on the rise. Learning about this I thought it a good time to share what you can do to keep your gums healthy and look after your teeth and your overall health.

Frankincense Chewing Gum – The Original Chewing Gum For Truly Fresh Breath

One of my new favourite discovery is using frankincense resin as a chewing gum to nourish the gums. A friend recently gave me some to try and this really blew me away. Frankincense resin is actually the original chewing gum used by the ancients! At first the resin is crunchy but if you keep chewing down on this stuff slowly it becomes like gum. It’s so cool. As frankincense is anti-inflammatory it really helps to soothe inflamed gums. It is also antimicrobial and antibacterial so will disinfect any bacterial issues happening in your mouth.

Oil Pulling – An Ancient Technique To Draw Out Toxins From Your Mouth

Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic technique for extracting toxins from our bodies through the mouth which is naturally really good for the gums and the teeth and will give you good breath. I use coconut oil for its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties and hold it in my mouth for about 15-20 minutes just while I wake up and get going. Then brush your teeth with a natural toothbrush and use a tongue scraper. I mainly use my tongue scraper during fasting when I get extra ‘stuff’ coming out, but doing it on a daily basis can be helpful and it actually helps loads more toxins to come out.

To super boost this add a drop of frankincense oil to a little shot glass of coconut oil and use this mixture. You could even try adding a couple of drops of clove oil to your coconut oil. Clove oil is great for tooth pain if you don’t take painkillers. It’s absolutely brilliant stuff for getting rid of bacteria and killing parasites and their eggs and is one of the highest sources of antioxidants, in that it goes beyond what you could ever get in foods in just a couple of drops.

One Of The Most Profound Things I’ve Discovered Recently – Activated Charcoal

Alongside frankincense one of the most profound things, I think I’ve discovered recently for oral care is activated charcoal. It’s very high in minerals and I’ve been brushing my teeth once a day with this. According to the research, I’ve looked into it locks the minerals inside the teeth, has the ability to repair and is also highly detoxifying drawing out toxins along the gum line.

More Natural Remedies for Healthy Gums You Can Make Yourself

A few other tips for gum health include rubbing a little omega oil along the gum line to help with any contact issues or soreness and also gargling with Himalayan sea salt. Really rinsing the salt wash around your mouth will kill any bacteria causing gum problems.

You can also try using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as a mouthwash to help kill bad bacteria and help whiten your teeth. I have 35% food grade H2O2 which you need just 5-6 drops in a shot glass size of water to make a mouthwash. As you swish it around you can actually feel it bubbling which is an invigorating experience.

So pay attention to the health of your gums, they can be an indicator of your overall health, so not something to be ignored.
