How Much Juice Should I Drink When I’m Juice Fasting?

If you are considering the idea of starting a juice fast, I bet this is one of the questions that you are concerned with – “How much juice should I drink, and how often?”

Well, this is not that easy to answer because everyones body adapts differently.

But I’m gonna share some information here to give you an idea on how to get started depending on your personal situation.

You Haven’t Tried Juice Fast Before? Go Slowly…

I believe that the first time you ever do a juice fast you should go easy on yourself. By that I mean don’t limit the amount of juice you have, drink as much as you need.

Fasting on really limited amounts of juice, and drinking it only certain times of the day is something you can do once you’re a more experienced faster.

When you start out I recommend you really experiment to see which fruits and vegetables you are attracted to.

Go into the grocery store and smell the oranges, look at the watermelons, the beets and the carrots. Buy the ones you feel most attracted too or resonate with you. I also want to add that you should always try to by whatever is in season and good quality organic produce.

For me in the morning, I’m usually attracted to orange juice, orange-pineapple juice or even a watermelon juice, as my body craves for something really sweet and hydrating. This juice is full of vitamin C and antioxidants, so it boosts my energy, and I am ready to go.

Then, in the afternoon, I might have a Cabala juice. I make it with carrots, apples, beet, lemons, and sometimes, I even add some greens or things of this nature. In the evening, I like to have some green juice like celery, cucumber, parsley, spinach or some other greens that really nourish my body.

I know that some people find this kind of fasting challenging, but there are ways to help your body adapt quickly to getting all the nourishment only from juices. For example, I’ve started experimenting with some warm veggie broth in the evenings at my juicing retreats. I know when I have this myself it feels so nourishing and satisifies me in a different way and it feels easier to fast.

So, the whole point of a juice fast is not to stick only to juices, but to allow your body to learn how to appreciate extra nourishment. And, of course, you should do whatever you feel your body needs to make the whole experience of fasting more enjoyable. If you’re thirsty or hungry, just smash through some juice, drinking two, three, or even four litres of juice.

And having two to three or four litres of water as well. The more hydrated you are the better off you’ll be.

Taking Things Next Level

As you become a seasoned faster, and you’re fasting more often, I recommend taking things next level by incorporating the principles of intermittent fasting. Intermittent Fasting refers to when you only take in caloric nutrition (in this case juice) during certain hours of the day.

So for the highest levels of healing I would recommend drinking juice within a certain period of time like 12pm to 6pm. That’s going to give you an 18-hour window of water fasting to promote maximum levels of ketosis and detoxification, as well as promote a process called autophagy (which is the body regenerating itself).

By noon the next day you’ll find you’re actually very hungry and you’re really looking to nourish yourself with those juices. Then, it’s just like, “OMG, this is amazing!”. In my opinion, about two litres of juice between noon and 6pm is ideal, and I recommend you drink three to four litres of water a day as well.

This is going to nourish your body, give you everything that you’re looking for, alkalize you and really help with detox.

Of course you can always come to Bali for the ultimate juice fast experience – my 10-day Know Thyself Fast event, where we juice fast together, and learn lots of amazing health tips to incorporate at home. Fasting in a group really takes things to another level. You should try it at least once.
