Simple Ways to Increase Your Metabolism
The first thing you need to know is that that metabolism is actually controlled by the thyroid gland.
Thyroid function goes down when we consume things like heavy metals, herbicides, pesticides and fungicides. Choosing organic foods, believe it or not, can actually increase our metabolism because it helps to detoxify the thyroid when we’re not putting the chemicals into our bodies that would normally suppress it.
So what are some of the ways you can increase your metabolism?
1. Drink Ice-Cold Water First Thing in the Morning
Some of the most long-lived cultures on this planet do something quite interesting – they simply walk every morning and go to a source of water. Typically, this water is freezing cold. They jump in and bathe in the freezing cold water and drink it as well.
According to some research, drinking ice-cold water first thing in the morning boosts your metabolism by about 26%.
I know a lot of people have been told that drinking cold water is bad for your stomach and digestion. And that is the true – you shouldn’t drink ice-cold water just before a meal. BUT if you wake up in the morning and drink ice-cold water first, your metabolism has to kick up because your body needs to warm up.
If you do this 20 to 30 minutes before having breakfast, it won’t affect your digestion.
2. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)
Another really powerful thing for boosting metabolism is called high intensity interval training. It’s a sort of training that really increases human growth hormone and muscle growth.
Studies show if you do something called Intermittent Fasting (or IF), it increases human growth hormone by 2000%, in conjunction with high intensity training.
HIIT consists of doing a 20 second burst of something as hard as you can. It could be sprinting, swimming, burpees or something that gets your heart rate pounding!
After 20 seconds of intense activity, you rest until you’re breathing normally again. And then you do another 20 second burst. You do that a total of six times, so really it’s only a couple minutes of actual activity that radically increases human growth hormone.
Anything you do after that will allow your body to put on muscle. With this method, you’ll burn more fat in 48 hours than actually running for one hour every single day.
So, as you can see, high intensity training has massive benefits for metabolism, fat loss and increasing muscle!
3. Intermittent Fasting
Intermittent fasting is waking up in the morning and skipping breakfast.
Instead of breakfast, you could have that ice cold water, boost your metabolism, go outside, maybe warm up, do some stretching first, or go for a walk.
And then you could do high intensity interval training. What I like to do is one day of high intensity training, and the next day, some form of strength training, because your muscles are going to increase due to that previous day of human growth hormone.
