Avocado Benefits: Health, Skin, Nutrition Facts | What Happens when you Eat Avocado

The avocado has been called the world’s most perfect food and has many health benefits. Many nutritionists claim it is a complete food. It not only contains everything a person needs to survive – but it has also been found to contribute to the prevention and control of Alzheimer’s, cancer, heart disease, diabetes and other conditions.

This is a great fruit to break an extended fast with, as it will quickly rebuild the body with good fats and proteins.

The Doctrine of Signatures

When it comes to “the doctrine of signatures,” an avocado looks a lot like a pregnant woman. The avocado is shaped like the pregnant uterus and has a big swollen seed inside.

Did you know the avocado can reduce the risk of cervical cancer and also aids in the health of the womb and development of the baby?

The essential fats in an avocado help to put on good healthy fat during pregnancy and studies have shown that if a women eats one ripe avocado per day for a week they will start to shed bad fats as the body is getting the good fat that it needs.

The avocado is a high-fibre, sodium- and cholesterol-free food that provides nearly 20 essential nutrients. It’s rich in healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (such as omega-3 fatty acids), vitamins A, C, D, E, K and the B vitamins (thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin, vitamin B-6, vitamin B-12 and folate) – as well as potassium.

Foods naturally rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as avocados, are widely acknowledged as the secret to a healthy heart, a brilliant brain and eagle eyes.

More Avocado Benefits:

Skin Care
The avocado oil is added to many cosmetics because of its ability to nourish the skin, giving it a glow. I recommend using the avocado straight on the skin. Let it set for a minimum of 20 minutes, then wash. It also aids in treating psoriasis, eczema and any skin diseases that cause skin redness and irritations.

Anti-aging properties
Being rich in antioxidants, avocado is beneficial in preventing aging symptoms. The glutathione in avocado may boost immune systems, slows the aging process, and encourages a healthy nervous system.

Cures bad breath
Avocados are one of the best natural mouthwashes and bad breath remedies. It cleanses the intestine, which is the real cause of coated tongue and bad breath.

Monounsaturated Fats
The good fats in avocados help control triglycerides in the bloodstream, lower blood cholesterol and control diabetes.

Folate
According to the National Institute of Health, folate “is especially important during periods of rapid cell division and growth such as infancy and pregnancy“. The high amount of folate in avocados is essential in the prevention of birth defects, such as neural tube defect and spina bifida.

Lutein
This is a carotenoid (a natural pigment) that protects against cataracts and certain types of cancer, and reduces the risk of macular degeneration, which is the leading cause of blindness in adults 65 years of age and older. Avocados contain 3 or more times as much lutein as found in other common vegetables and fruits.

Oleic Acid and Potassium
Both of these nutrients also help in lowering cholesterol and reducing the risk of high blood pressure.

Tips to Get the Most out of Avocados

Snack
My favourite snack/meal is a slice of Essene bread lightly toasted with loads of avocado, thinly cut tomato, some Bragg Amino Acids or salt, and just a drip of extra virgin olive oil. I could live on just this!

Dip/Tacos
Guacamole is also one of my favourite dips. I make raw tacos with guacamole all the time. Just mash avocados, cut up some tomatoes and onion, or garlic if you like, add a pinch of salt, a squeeze of lemon, and you’ll be Rockin’!!

I wrap this in a big lettuce leaf and, voila! Amazing raw tacos. Add some tempeh if you’re transitioning from meat (for a chicken consistency, and to really fill you up). It’s super high in protein and good fats (important when first becoming more vego…).

Smoothies
Not a big fan of avocados? Add an avocado to your smoothies for a very easy way to get all the goodness that an avocado has to offer, without having to taste it.

Seriously, you can’t go wrong with avocados. They’ve got you covered with so many benefits for inside and outside the body. It’s one of the most, complete whole foods Mother Nature gifts us with.
