Health Benefits Of Fasting To Inspire You To Start Today

It surprises me that many people are sceptical about the health benefits of fasting. Of course experiencing a fast yourself is the best way to bust through scepticism! But there is actually a LOT of recorded data supporting the benefits of fasting, from ancient times right up until scientific studies been published today.

What are the benefits of fasting?

This is a good summary of what happens during a fast:

  • Lower levels of toxins coming in + higher levels of toxins going out = reduction of total body toxicity.
  • The energy usually used for digestion is redirected to immune function, cell growth, and eliminatory processes.
  • The immune system’s workload is greatly reduced, and the digestive tract is spared any inflammation due to allergic reactions to food.
  • Due to a lowering of serum fats that thins the blood, tissue oxygenation is increased and white blood cells are moved more efficiently.
  • Fat-stored chemicals, such as pesticides and drugs, are released.
  • Physical awareness and sensitivity to diet and surroundings are increased.

I have personally helped thousands of people to fast, some on juice, some on water and some as long as 40 days on water. Through this experience, I have seen many lives transform for the better.

I have seen cancer go into remission, diabetes gone, the worse case of Lymes disease completely healed, MS and Motor Neurons improved drastically.

I’ve worked with complete paraplegics (told it’s not possible to walk again) and through fasting watched them regain the use of their limbs and now running marathons!

I’ve seen so many cases of candida, migraines, high blood pressure and cholesterol levels solved.

Endometriosis, prostate cancer and enlargement healed, polycystic ovaries, uterine cancer all healed very quickly and the list goes on.

Countless times people healed and medications were thrown in the trash.

When done properly fasting is more than just about abstinence from food. It’s about really supporting the healing process.

There are many other forms of healing and support through the fasting process, including but not limited to:

I believe all of these are contributing factors in the healing process. But it’s the action of fasting that will get the greatest results.

Ancient Cultures Realised The Amazing Healing Powers Of Fasting

Fasting is mentioned over 40 times in the Old and New Testament of the Bible. Apart from scripture, the earliest records of therapeutic fasting date back to the ancient civilisations of Greece and the Near East.

Plato and Socrates fasted for 7-10 days to gain physical and mental efficiency. Pythagoras fasted 40 days before his examination at Alexandria and required his students to fast before entering his classes. Ancient Egyptians resolved many diseases with therapeutic fasting. The renowned Greek physician Hippocrates recognized therapeutic fasting as of primary importance in disease.

Paracelsus, a physician of the early 16th century, held a natural affinity with the Hermetic, neoplatonic, and Pythagorean philosophies central to the Renaissance. He made significant advancements in the field of medicine, he established chemistry as a significant tool for physicians, he wrote dozens of scientific works and made groundbreaking advances in the understanding and treating of wounds and diseases.

His conclusion from all this was: “Fasting is the greatest remedy”.

Modern Science Is Now Showing Us Exactly How Fasting Improves The Body – Stem Cells

Fasting triggers stem cell regeneration of damaged, old immune system, tissues and organs within the body. Researchers from the University Of Southern California (USC) showed that fasting helps the body’s stem cells to begin producing new white blood cells, which help to fight off infection.

Cycles of prolonged fasting not only protect against immune system damage but also induce immune system regeneration, shifting stem cells from a dormant state to a state of self-renewal. It’s been shown you can renew your entire immune system after just 72 hours of fasting!

Professor Valter Longo of the Gerontology and the Biological Sciences department at USC said, “We could not predict that prolonged fasting would have such a remarkable effect in promoting stem cell-based regeneration of the hematopoietic system”. What does that mean? Well, the hematopoietic system includes all the blood-making organs like bone marrow and lymph. Longo described it as creating “literally, a new immune system.”

He adds that fasting also increased PKA, explaining that. “PKA is the key gene that needs to shut down in order for these stem cells to switch into regenerative mode. It gives the OK for stem cells to go ahead and begin proliferating and rebuild the entire system”.

“And the good news is that the body got rid of the parts of the system that might be damaged or old, the inefficient parts, during the fasting. Now, if you start with a system heavily damaged by chemotherapy or ageing, fasting cycles can generate, literally, a new immune system.”

Longo is also the director of the USC Longevity Institute and has a joint appointment at the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. Sounds like he really knows his stuff.

Does Fasting Increase Your Life Span? The Science Of Rejuvenescence

There is one quality of fasting which is genuinely awesome and even miraculous, and yet it is truly natural to life. This is the ability for all living things, including humans, to regain youthfulness. This physiological (scientific) method is called rejuvenescence.

Bizarrely enough lower forms of life can actually return to embryonic stages through fasting!!! Don’t worry this is not possible for us, BUT we can benefit from the youthing effects.

At the department of Physiology of the University of Chicago, Dr. Carlson and Professor Kunde fasted a 40 year old male two weeks discovering his cellular physiology was that of a seventeen year old!

On May 18th, 1933, one of the physicians attending Ghandi; during his fast at that time, reported that on that day, the tenth day of his fast, “despite his 64 years, from a physiological point of view, the Indian leader was as healthy as a man of forty.”

How Does This Work?

Experiments by Hull Biological Laboratory of the University of Chicago, and reported to the Journal of Metabolic Research, have shown that a fast of thirty to forty days produces a permanent increase of five to six per cent in the metabolic rate.

As we get older our metabolic rate slows down, so when we speed up the metabolic rate again one of the effects is rejuvenation.

Fasting clears the body, purifies the blood, renews the organs, increases digestion and assimilation and in doing so your body has had a complete makeover!

Dr. Paul Bragg states: (The Miracle of Fasting, p. 145). fasting is not a cure for any disease or ailment. The purpose of the fast is to allow the body full range and scope to fulfil its self-healing, self-repairing, self-rejuvenating functions to the best advantage. … … [Fasting is] probably the fastest and safest way or means of regaining health ever conceived by the human man.

Fasting puts the body in a condition where all the Vital Force of the body is used to flush out the causes of body miseries.

Why I Want You To Fast

I have come to a point of knowing that if more people would fast 1 day a week and a few short periods per year (7-10 days) and modify their lifestyle, disease would not exist and if a person is riddled with symptoms and even late stages of disease, fasting with the proper protocols will drastically improve the overall health of the individual and in my opinion will get to the cause and bring back a full bill of health.
