Sunlight is one of the most natural and ESSENTIAL things for life. Sunlight has been hailed for its unique ability to dramatically lower the risk of many forms of cancer and has also been shown to lower the risk of heart disease, diabetes, stroke and dementia.
So why do we get told that it’s our enemy?
Sunlight is essential to everything on the planet. I’m going to share with you here some lesser-known benefits of sunlight and why you should start enjoying it more. 🙂
Sunlight for Muscle Growth
Did you know that gladiators would work out in the Sun because they knew it helped them to grow stronger muscles?
Well, research has caught up to what these ancient warriors already knew. Back in January 2015 it was published in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise that: “An association between vitamin D and significantly stronger muscles was found that could not be explained by other factors”.
How awesome is that?
Feeling Chronic Fatigue?
Maybe lack of sunshine is the answer. According to researchers from Louisiana State University, low levels of vitamin D are thought to be the reason behind some cases of chronic sleepiness.
Build Your Bones
Hydration, salt and sunshine are the building blocks for calcium. Think about how corals build their calcium skeletons in the ocean. It’s salt and water in the presence of sunshine!
And there are studies of kids in many countries that link vitamin D intake to a whopping 50 percent reduction in cavities.
Heal Fibroid Tumours
I once had a client who had 5 x 1cm fibroid tumors in her uterus and doctors wanted to take it out. She came to my house in Bali and fasted on juice for 5 days, followed by a 10 day water fast. During this time she got out into the sun for 2 hours at least every day. The results?
A great tan and all the fibroid tumors were GONE!!
A study published online in the journal Biology of Reproduction found that vitamin D effectively reduces the size of existing uterine fibroids, and may even help prevent them from forming in the first place.
Sunlight for Mental Disorders
It’s pretty obvious that sunshine makes us happier. This works on a deep level too.
Studies link D3 deficiencies to depression and indicate the potential for preventing and treating mental disorders such as depression, seasonal affective disorder (SAD), anxiety, and schizophrenia.
Sunlight Helps Infections
Sunlight, it turns out, is necessary for the production of anti-microbial peptides, substances that fight off infection-causing bacteria, fungi, and viruses.
There have been a number of published studies that show a deficiency in vitamin d is associated with a significantly increased risk of another common health problem – urinary tract infections.
Sunshine is a great replacement for toxic flu shots as well. Jikei University School of Medicine in Tokyo published a study in 2010 that found that vitamin D was extremely effective at halting influenza infections in children and adults.
What if You Live in a City With Low or No Sunlight?
Now I know this might sound strange at first, but tanning beds are actually designed to synthesize the perfect conditions of a summer’s day.
It’s because of these ideal conditions that people can absorb all the UVs and produce all the vitamin D they need in such a short period of time.
But remember – too much of anything is a bad thing. If I lived in a city with little sunshine I would go 3 times a week. I would use a stand-up bed for 15 minutes per visit max. I would then go for 8 minutes at a time after building a tan.
This would get me ample amounts of the crucial Vitamin D that does all these amazing things including reducing your risk of skin cancer by some 50%!!!
And of course, the best option here is to come and hang out with me in Bali for one of my LIVE EVENTS!
So, let’s all get out in the sun more often and use sun protection made from coconut oil instead of petroleum-based (cancer-causing) chemicals. I’ve written more about natural sun care, check it out.
