I want to tell you about some amazing celery health benefits that you probably haven’t heard of. It’s the best snack ever and is a great detoxifier. Keeping alkaline is one of my top tips to stay healthy as when you are alkaline, your body can excrete more toxins. Because celery is also a diuretic, it further helps by aiding the body to flush out toxins.

Celery to Build Bones and Strengthen the Nervous System

Have you ever noticed that celery looks like our bones? 

If you cut a whole stick of celery in half it looks just like the inside of a bone. According to the Doctrine of Signatures, this similarity in appearance is a sign that celery is probably a pretty good thing to eat for healthy bones. And guess what? It is!

It’s high in natural sodium which is the catalyst for making bones and contains significant amounts of calcium and silicon which can aid in the repair of damaged ligaments and bones.

Many people think by taking calcium supplements they are helping their bones, when in fact all they are doing is calcifying their body.

Let’s think about it for a second. You can take coral calcium off the ocean floor and sell it as pills. Or you could think about how the coral was formed in the first place… It got there through the coral taking in the sodium from the seawater and processing it in the presence of sunlight.

Our body also needs sodium and sunlight to produce strong bones, something celery has both of!! That’s right, celery has sodium and sunshine!! So now you know the two major building blocks you need for making calcium in your body.

Fresh celery is also an excellent source of vitamin-K which helps increase bone mass by promoting osteotropic (or bone building) activity.

Celery Helps with Inflammation in your Body

As well as building up your bones, recent research has shown celery’s anti-inflammatory health benefits. This is not just in joints, but also in the digestive tract too. This means that people with Crohn’s disease, IBS and many other digestive issues could benefit greatly from eating celery.

The anti-inflammatory effect of celery has also been shown to decrease the risk of oxidative damage to body fats and risk of oxidative damage to blood vessel walls. Celery is also great for the immune system as it contains compounds, called coumarins, which are known to enhance the activity of some types of white blood cells.

Celery was Casanova's Secret Weapon

Today, scientists know that celery contains androsterone, a pheromone released by a man’s sweat glands that attracts females. As far back as ancient Rome, celery was considered an aphrodisiac. Apparently Italian lover, Casanova, made sure to include lots of celery in his diet to keep up his stamina. I do the same. That’s why the ladies are always flocking around me (that’s just a joke by the way).

Ways to Include Celery in your Diet

Celery is great as you can just snack on it raw. My favourite way to eat it is to add almond butter. Yum! Or I also like to mix it into a green smoothie. Here is an amazing smoothie recipe for you to try out:

Green Smoothie

1 cut apple
2 sticks celery
¼ avocado
big handful or 2 of greens (spinach, kale, silverbeet, etc.)

¼ cucumber
2-3 bananas
5-7 dates

Fill ¼ – ½ of the pitcher with water and blend until it is silky smooth.

This smoothie tastes amazing and will start to bring about health when added to your regime a few times per week, at least. 🙂
